Brazilian Foot Lift Surgical Procedure

Everything rides on the bottom of our feet.

Nature knows that, which is why we have specialized fat pads on the bottom of our feet to cushion the shock and impact that comes with every step we take.

These fat pads protect the feet’s bones, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, and nerves, but as with so many things that come with aging, those fat pads can deteriorate, shrink, or shift, a condition called fat pad atrophy.

When that happens, walking, running, or even just standing can become extremely painful.

But we can fix it!

The Brazilian Foot Lift at JAWS podiatry

JAWS Podiatry’s Dr. Abraham Wagner, an expert in non-invasive functional and aesthetic treatments for feet and ankles, is now offering patients a safe, effective, long-term, non-surgical alternative which can improve the shape, integrity, and comfort of the bottom of your feet: The Brazilian Foot Lift.

The Brazilian Foot Lift is designed to address issues related to fat pad atrophy. In addition to age, fat pad atrophy can be caused by:

  • Collapsed long bones in the balls of the feet or prominent metatarsal heads
  • Wearing high heels
  • Extremely high arches
  • Extremely flat feet
  • Previous injury
  • Previous surgery or fractures
  • Genetics
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic or local use of corticosteroids
  • Orthopedic deformities
  • Abnormal foot mechanics
  • Autoimmune conditions

In this revolutionary procedure, the fat pad is regenerated using your own body fat, a technique also known as an autologous fat transfer or autolipotransplantation (fat from your own body).

A small amount of fat, about a small syringe full, is harvested from another, discreet part of the body (usually the abdomen or thighs) such that it will not leave any noticeable effect.

It is then treated and injected to the bottom of the foot.

A 2016 study from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine found that patients treated through fat grafting, like that we use for the Brazilian Foot Lift, “demonstrated improved foot function and reduced pain with no change in tissue thickness or foot pressure” over the course of the year following the procedure.

In addition to being safe and effective, this minimally invasive procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return home on their feet that same day, though patients are advised to be very conservative and gentle while walking for a number of weeks.

At JAWS Podiatry, we always look for non-surgical treatment options for foot and ankle problems whenever possible.

The Brazilian Foot Lift is designed to provide an alternative to surgery, to restore the quality of life, and to eliminate pain once and for all.
