Regenerative Amniotic Stem Cell Therapy

At JAWS Podiatry, we recommend and implement the most effective and advanced treatments to resolve ankle and heel problems.

Sometimes, surgery is the best or only option, but we know that surgery is invasive, uncomfortable, and can require lengthy recovery time.

That’s why we always explore non-surgical alternatives when those alternatives could achieve the same result.

Many of these alternative treatments focus on using and enhancing the body’s natural regenerative functions to relieve pain and repair damage.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

Regenerative medicine is an option for patients with new injuries or patients who previously tried other orthopedic treatments with no relief.

Each regenerative procedure is done in just a day, minimizing healing time considerably.

Regenerative medicine can take many forms, including the use of amniotic stem cells.

We use this safe and proven biocompatible approach to treat a wide range foot and ankle ailments, including:

What Exactly Are Stem Cells?

Stem cells are the all-purpose handymen of our bodies, containing powerful anti-inflammatory properties which help restore healthy functioning and repair damaged tissue throughout the body.

Unlike cortisone and other anti-inflammatory drugs which only provide temporary pain relief, stem cells actually restore damaged tissue while providing pain relief at the same time.

How Does Amniotic Stem Cell Therapy Work?

Here’s how amniotic stem cell therapy works:

We receive amniotic tissue from elective donations. All amniotic stem cell donors must go through an extensive screening process approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) before they can be used for therapeutic purposes.

These approved and screened stem cells are then transformed into injections.

The stem cells are injected into the injured tissue, stimulating the work that the body is already doing.

Amniotic stem cell therapy offers patients the opportunity to reduce pain and speed up the recovery process after an injury.

You should discuss with your physician whether this treatment is right for you.

Regenerative Stem Cell Bone Marrow Therapy

Similarly, bone marrow therapy has been safely and effectively used for years to treat a variety of ailments.

The reason this treatment works is because of the power of the stem cells found in our bones.

Stem cells contain powerful anti-inflammatory properties which help restore healthy functioning and repair damaged tissue throughout the body.

Unlike cortisone and other anti-inflammatory drugs which only provide temporary pain relief, stem cells actually restore damaged tissue while providing pain relief at the same time.

As mentioned, in amniotic stem cell therapy, we use stem cells from donors who must go through an extensive screening process approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) before they can be used for therapeutic purposes.

But bone marrow therapy uses the patient’s own stem cells rather than a donor’s.

Typically, we extract these powerful cells from the heel bone using a special needle which draws out the cells in a syringe, along with other elements found in the marrow.

The product is then spun in a centrifuge to filter the stem cells from the other elements.

These cells are then injected into the damaged tissue where they enhance the healing already being done by your body’s natural processes.

According to the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society, stem cells derived from bone marrow “can be used to help with bone healing, cartilage repair and new blood vessel growth.

Using stem cells may treat delayed union or nonunion of bone fractures, cartilage defects, osteonecrosis, chronic tendon problems or chronic wounds.”

In many respects, bone marrow therapy is very similar to platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) injections, another form of regenerative therapy we often use.

In fact, bone marrow stem cells and PRP injections are sometimes used in combination when appropriate to further encourage pain relief and tissue repair.

You should discuss with your physician whether bone marrow therapy is a viable treatment option for you.
